A GUIDE TO DRESSING MODESTLY IN THE SPRING & SUMMER

I know for me personally it can be challenging to find clothing that is both modest and fashionable. Especially during the spring and summer season when trends tend to lean towards more revealing styles. Dressing modestly doesn’t mean sacrificing style or creativity. In fact, there are many ways to incorporate modesty into your outfits while still expressing your unique personality and fashion sense.

Here is a guide to dressing modestly this spring and summer:

  1. Start with a good foundation: Investing in good quality undergarments is key to achieving a modest and comfortable look. Look for bras, camisoles, and slip dresses that provide coverage and support without compromising on style. I also find wearing spandex shorts under shorter dresses. This helps me feel a little more covered, just in case the wind blows my direction, if you know what I mean!
  2. Embrace longer hemlines: Midi and maxi dresses and skirts are great options for modest dressing. They provide full coverage while still being stylish and feminine.
  3. Experiment with layering: Layering is a great way to add depth and dimension to your outfits while maintaining modesty. Look for lightweight cardigans, blazers, and jackets that can be worn over tops and dresses.
  4. Look for high necklines: Tops and dresses with high necklines are a great option for modest dressing. Look for crew neck, turtleneck, or mock neck styles that provide full coverage.
  5. Don’t forget about accessories: Accessories can add personality and style to your outfit without compromising on modesty. Look for statement necklaces, scarves, headbands and hats that complement your outfit.
  6. Stick to classic and timeless styles: Classic and timeless styles are great options for modest dressing. Look for clothing in neutral colors, such as black, white, or navy, or classic prints, such as stripes or polka dots.
  7. Embrace swimwear with fuller coverage: One-piece swimsuits with longer hemlines or tankinis are great options for modest dressing. They provide full coverage while still being stylish and feminine.
  8. Get versatile pieces: Look for clothing that can be dressed up or down, such as a versatile maxi dress that can be worn to a wedding or a casual weekend brunch.
  9. Be balanced: It’s important to find a balance between covering up and showing skin, so as not to appear too conservative or too revealing. When choosing an outfit, consider which areas of your body you want to highlight and which you want to downplay. For example, if you’re wearing a crop top, pair it with a high-waisted skirt or jeans  to balance out the amount of skin you’re showing. Similarly, if you’re revealing a bit of cleavage, opt for longer sleeves or pants or long skirt to balance out the look.

Start with a good foundation, choose longer hemlines, layer up, experiment with prints and patterns. Don’t forget about accessories, embrace versatile pieces that can be worn for different occasions, and be balanced.
