Before being on Accutane (basically a super strong acne pill that dries out your skin and helps clear acne) my skin was an absolute oil slick! I would have to blot all day lol. It was the worst! BUT, I def tried keeping it under control as best as I could with mattifying products and the RIGHT foundation. While being on Accutane, my skin became super dry! Then AFTER being on accutane, my skin finally became “normal.” Basically my skin is rarely oily and rarely dry – it’s just right in the middle. So I definitely have experienced all skin types haha. I’ve tested TONS of foundations! To be honest, if your foundation is off (in my opinion) your whole makeup look is off. No one likes to be walking around with dry patchy foundation or foundation that is slipping and sliding all over the place.
After trying countless foundations, I have found my tried and true HOLIEST OF HOLY GRAIL foundations!
#1 ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR (color: 3W2 Cashew), $42
If you’ve never heard of this foundation you probably live under a rock LOL JK! But seriously, this foundation is so popular and for good reason!! It’s amazing. And it worked for me when I had really oily skin and even worked for me when I had the driest skin. This foundation has a matte natural finish. If you have more of a dry skin type, the trick with this foundation is to prep your skin the right way! If my skin was particularly dry that day I would either use extra moisturizer or an oil to mix my foundation with. Yes, I said it! I mixed my foundation with face oil! If your face is super dry, taking just a drop of facial oil can make a world of a difference in your foundation. Or if you just want an extra glow this can work for you, too! Some of the facial oils I would use is Josie Maran Argan Oil and Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Oil. Using a dewy makeup setting mist works wonders, too (MAC Fix+ is BOMB)! You can also try mixing your foundation with a liquid highlighter. I love Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter in Champagne Pop by Becca Cosmetics.
Another reason I really love Estee Lauder Double Wear is because it lasts ALL DAY. Not kidding! This thing is like glue and transfer resistant. If you’re trying to look flawless, girl look no further. This thing is full coverage for sure! Even though I absolutely love this foundation this is actually not my everyday go-to. The only downside of this foundation is that you have to work a little extra to make sure you get it all off or else it can clog your pores (no bueno!). I don’t have the patience for that everyday of the week lol. So I use this one for special events (flash photography friendly, too!!).
*Disclaimer: For this foundation you may have to work quickly because it dries pretty fast! It is definitely bendable but don’t let it sit for long or else its hard to move around (that’s how you know this thing lasts all day!!).
#2 FENTY BEAUTY FOUNDATION (color: 290), $34
For a more everyday foundation, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Foundation is an absolute GEM! This foundation is as light as air. That is honestly the best part. It does not cake up on my skin at all and has a beautiful matte natural look. You don’t look over done at all. Thick foundations are an absolute NO for me. I can’t stand to feel like I have 5lbs of product on my face. It’s just not comfortable!! The shade range of for this foundation is pretty dang amazing, too! Good job RiRi!! 😉 I love the soft-matte look and feel of this foundation. And the coverage is definitely buildable. If I want it to look natural, it works great. If I want to beat my face to the gods and look flawless its amazing, too lol
To apply any foundation I NEVER use a brush. I just can’t. I don’t know how people do it. When I discovered beauty blenders… GIRL I never looked back lol. I always wet my beauty blender and squeeze the excess water out and then use it damp to apply my foundation! The streaks brushes leave is a #NO. Does anyone else feel the same?! Haha I just can’t use brushes for foundation. No no no.
