My Curly Hair Routine

My Curls are Coming Back to Life!

After experiencing my first deva cut (Watch My First Deva Cut Here), I have not straightened my hair once! Which I am so proud of! Woo! I never thought I’d say that. It’s only been a couple of months but I can truly say that my hair has changed so much and its still changing everyday. My hair is growing and I have ZERO split ends (I used to have split ends ALL the time!). My hair is on its way to being 100% healthy and I’m happy.

Taking Care of My Hair

I wanted to share all the products and steps I’ve been taking to take care of my hair. Most of the products I’m going to mention are from DevaCurl. Although DevaCurl is quite pricey, I honestly feel nothing has worked on my hair like it. I am still open to trying new products ever so often, but DevaCurl products have legit been my holy grail!

1. WASH + CONDITON

I’ve been washing my hair consistently every 3 days in the shower. I find this is what works for me and keeps my hair fresh and my curls alive. After 3 days, my curls often just go flat. Some weeks I can even go up to 4 days without washing my hair and use dry shampoo or just put my hair in a curly top knot.

DevaCurl No Poo Original – Love this stuff! It has a unique non-lathering formula and a refreshing peppermint scent. This product doesn’t strip my hair of the moisture my curls need, unlike most shampoos.

DevaCurl One Condition – Best conditioner I have ever used! Smooths my hair and helps get all my knots out. I put this all over my hair, comb through it, then rinse. I don’t rinse all the way though. I leave a good amount in and continue styling my hair (really helps with keeping my hair moisturized).

2. DEEP CONDITION + TREATMENTS

I recently found this little kit at ULTADevaCurl Reboot, Repair, Restore Treatment Trio. It’s only $20 and has these amazing 3 products. Because I only use these products about once a week I figured I didn’t need to buy the full size.

DevaCurl Build Up Buster – When I feel like my curls have been weighed down by too many products and it’s just not curling right anymore this stuff is PERFECT! On those days I replace my cleanser with this gem.

Once a week, right after washing my hair with No Poo, I will either do the Deep Sea Repair Seaweed Strengthening Mask or the Melt Into Moisture Mask. Both of these masks smell amazing and do wonders at strengthening and moisturizing my hair. I usually leave these masks on for about 10 minutes in the shower then rinse out. After rinsing out, I put a teeny tiny bit of my One Condition.

When coming out of the shower I make sure to use a microfiber towel. I have two I alternate between. My Turbie Twist and my DevaCurl Towel.

3. STYLING

Now for the fun part, styling! When getting out the shower, I make sure I leave a good amount of water in my hair (when I scrunch it, I make sure there is a squishy sound). My hair needs all the water and moisture it can get! I then quickly put all my products in my hair while my hair is still wet.

DevaCurl Wave Maker – This products is so lightweight and gives my curls amazing shape.

DevaCurl Super Cream – This product is heavier than the Wave Maker, but it also helps give me really nice shape! I love mixing it with Wave Maker for defined and bouncy curls.

DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel – To seal all these products in and give me a good hold, this gel works great!

After putting these 3 products in, I comb my hair with my Wet Hair Brush. This helps spread the products through every inch of my hair. Then, I part my hair where I want it and use my towel to squeeze out any excess water or product. After this, I scrunch scrunch scrunch until my hands fall off haha! I flip my hair from side to side while scrunching.

4. DRYING

I usually put a couple clips at the roots of my hair to give more volume to my hair while I diffuse or air dry. If I have enough time I’ll just air dry my hair, but if I don’t I will use my diffuser for about 10 minutes on low heat. I will continue flipping my hair from side to side while diffusing (this helps to create volume).

After I feel my hair is dry enough, I will use DevaCurl Flexible Hold Hair Spray to give me a little extra hold. Then, I shake my hands through the roots of my hair and scrunch out the hard cast the gel or spray left behind. If I want even more volume, I will use the Briogeo Volumizing Spray. I sprits a couple sprays of this in my roots. I love the volume I get with this!

If I feel like there are too many flyaways and frizzies, I will use a tiny bit of hair oil. One I’ve been loving lately is Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil.

5. MAINTENANCE

Lastly, to maintain my curls as long as possible, I put my hair in a pineapple (a pony tail that sits at the top your head). I use a very light hair tie that won’t mess up my curl pattern and I never do a double tie.

When I sleep, I put a satin cap on. I look crazy going to sleep lol, but it’s the only way my curls won’t get so frizzy.
